PRACTICE
Licenses do you need for practicing in championship/practice venues
During competition and practice sessions all participants and their agents shall follow the Catch & Release principle.
The fishing in competition sectors by competitors or their agents is prohibited during a period of 30 (thirty) days prior to the official start of the event (from June 16, 2025 including).
Practice waters for all venues will be published on the website.
Fishing licenses
In general, a license is not required to fish for trout anywhere in the Republic of Ireland except within the Loughs Agency catchment areas. However, as the competition waters are within the Loughs Agency catchment area a Loughs Agency Licence is required to fish in Counties Donegal and Tyrone. A Loughs Agency Licence can be purchased online using this link Loughs Agency elicence.
If you wish to fish in Northern Ireland outside the Loughs Agency catchment area then an endorsement is required to your Loughs Agency Licence from the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) which allows you to fish anywhere in Northern Ireland a DAERA game angling endorsement license can be purchased online using the link below.
It is recommended you…
1. Purchase the Loughs Agency Licence first.
2. Then purchase the Endorsement from DAERA.
3. This will cover you to legally fish anywhere in Ireland.
Permits
Some lakes and rivers are leased to individuals and clubs in Ireland. In order to fish on these waters a fishing permit must be purchased locally and is issued by the owner or the lessee of the River or Lake. The permit gives the license holder the right to fish for a set period ranging from one day to a whole season. The best waters generally cost between €10 and €20 a day.
